Why was the Street Rider Night Bus Service developed?
The Street Rider Night Bus Service project was established in partnership by the Greater Shepparton City Council and Victoria Police to address drink driving within the local area, late night altercations and assaults and disorderly behaviour within Shepparton's central business district. The Street Rider Night Bus provides a safe, easy and inexpensive alternative for late night travel.
Hours of Operation
The Street Rider Night Bus Service operates Sunday mornings between 1am and 5am delivering people to their doors in the Shepparton, Kialla and Mooroopna areas for a gold coin donation. During operational times patrons are encouraged to either call or text 0429 449 995 to assist patrons to locate bus stops.
Allocated Bus Stops
The Bus collects from the following predetermined bus stops:
- Out the front of Harris Scarfe (Wyndham Street)
- Aussie Hotel
- Yahoo Bar
- Goulburn Valley Hotel, Gaming Room Entrance.
Sponsorship/Volunteer Support
The Street Rider Night Bus Service operates through the generous support of local clubs and businesses:
- Bus is donated for use by the Office of Corrections and Berry Street
- Security on the bus is provided by The GV Hotel, Yahoo Bar, Bullion Bar, Aussie Hotel and The Vic Hotel
- The bus is driven by local volunteers (if anyone would like to Volunteer please contact Leading Senior Constable Thelma Bull, Shepparton Crime Prevention Officer on 5820 5777)
- Victoria Police and Greater Shepparton City Council coordinate the service.
