Shepparton has been shortlisted in the Top 10 places to be voted as Australia's best walking town, it was announced this week.
Greater Shepparton Mayor Geoff Dobson is encouraging residents to vote for Shepparton on the Prevention magazine website or using the entry form in the current edition.
"Several months ago Prevention magazine and Sunrise asked viewers and readers to nominate the best walking town and yesterday we were told that Shepparton has been shortlisted in the Top 10 Australia wide," Cr Dobson said.
"I would like to thank everyone who nominated Shepparton - I totally agree with you, as we have some of the best walking tracks around.
"Shepparton's walking tracks along the Broken River, around Jordan's Bend and the beauty of the whole Yanha Gurtji Shared Path Network are a delight.
"I personally get out there almost every day for about an hour - it is definitely a time I look forward to."
Shepparton has some prestigious company, with Canberra, Bright, Launceston, Esperance, Adelaide, Narooma, Port Macquarie, Noosa Heads and Townsville making up the top 10.
"This is great national exposure for Shepparton and the competition will bring both tourism and media coverage to our area," he said.
"Council has invested a lot of money into our shared path network, so it is pleasing to see our residents and visitors value the benefits they bring to the region.
"As well as encouraging people to get online and vote, most importantly I'd encourage people to get out there and experience the beautiful surrounds of our walking tracks."

Aquamoves' New Splash Park and Leisure Pool

Upgrades to the outdoor areas at Aquamoves, incorporating a new beach entry leisure pool, Splash Park and features and associated landscaping including sandy beach area, barbecues and shade will maintain Aquamoves as an important community facility.
The new Splash Park and Beach will provide many benefits for people with disabilities.
Zero water depth means Aquamoves' PVC wheelchairs can be utilised allowing disabled people to participate in almost all activities and share the same experiences on the deck as an able-bodied person.
The movement, running water and sand provide stimulus for those with sight and hearing disabilities as well as intellectual disabilities.
Anecdotal evidence suggests many of the culturally and linguistically diverse communities in Greater Shepparton have not had significant interaction with water and are unable to swim.
The zero depth Splash Park will provide a non threatening environment for these communities to begin to confidently participate in many of the summer activities Australians take for granted and also pave the way for participation in other programs such as learn to swim which have wider health and community benefits.
The Splash Park will provide an additional safe and exciting facility encouraging families to participate in recreational activities together.

The new outdoor development will be open daily 9am-9pm throughout the school holidays.

Rodney Motor Inn Wins Award

On the 23rd October 2009, the Rodney Motor Inn was awarded the 2009 Tourism Excellence Award at the 2009 Powercor 95.3 3SR FM Business and Service Excellence Awards which awards business excellence in Greater Shepparton.

After winning the award the Rodney Motor Inn said "We only needed to inspect the Rodney Motor Inn once to know it was a great motel, with its large rooms each with a separate kitchenette, although we could see it was in need of a "facelift".  We took over on 1st July 2008 and proceeded to replace and add many items such as beds, bedding, tvs, airconditioners, DVD players, irons, ironing boards, toasters, and kitchen equipment.   Our great staff helped give the place a good clean and we now get lots of nice compliments on the comfort and cleanliness of the motel.   With the hotel bistro next door, a very popular salt pool and outdoor spa, and a variety of rooms from spa rooms to 2 bedroom units, we are able to cater for all kinds of guests from workers to golf groups."

We would like to congratulate the Rodney Motor Inn.  If you would like to book accommodation at the Rodney Motor Inn please click here.
